Fears for a 12 year old schoolgirl who ran with an american paedophile who used the internet to groom a 12-year-old English girl for sex cannot be jailed for life in Britain because he carried out the eventual assault in France, it emerged last night.

Toby Studabaker, 32, a former US marine who once served in Afghanistan, abducted the child and took her on a five-day trip to the Continent after infiltrating a children's website that features virtual reality pets.

Computer clues in 'suicide pact'
Computer experts are being brought in to help police work out why two schoolgirls apparently entered into a suicide pact.

Laura, 13, from Neath, south Wales, died from a suspected drug overdose on Saturday. Her best friend, Rebecca, 14, from Longbridge, Birmingham, is recovering at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. The girls - who met in an internet chat room - were found seriously ill at Laura's home when Rebecca raised the alarm.

They left a note saying they did not want to be parted.

  14 Year Old Arranges own Death over Chat!
The 'dark side' of the Internet was blamed yesterday for a grammar school boy's astonishing plot to arrange his own murder. The boy, who was 14 at the time, hoodwinked another teenager into stabbing him after using an Internet chat room to pose as a spy.

With his adolescent imagination fuelled by the plots of James Bond films, the schoolboy, identified only as 'John', used a series of alter egos to convince his 16-year-old accomplice that his own stabbing had been ordered by 'the Government'. The gullible older boy, 'Mark', was so taken in by the fantasy that he believed he would be paid Pounds 500,000 and would be given a job as a secret agent as a reward.

  Chat room paedophile jailed
Prosecutors in the case of a paedophile who used the internet to groom under-age girls for sex are considering an appeal to try and increase his three-year jail sentence. Michael Wheeler, 36, from Cambridge, pleaded guilty to 11 sex offences against young girls.

Detectives believe Wheeler deliberately exploited the current law on sentencing by waiting until the girls were 13 before having sex with them so he could avoid being jailed for life if caught.

  Fears for safety of chatroom girl, 14
A 14-YEAR-OLD girl has gone missing after apparently forming a relationship with an older boyfriend through internet chatrooms. Jenna vanished after posting photographs of herself on an adult website, falsely giving her age as 17. Police said they were "increasingly concerned" for her safety and believed she could be in the company of unknown males she had met through the internet.

Jenna's parents feared she was staying with a 17-year-old who contacted her by e-mail four days before she disappeared with a picture of himself saying "Ur future hubby".

Chatroom rapist sentenced to life
A man convicted of raping and indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl
he met in an internet chatroom has been given a life sentence in jail.

John McIver, 40, of Westover Court, High Wycombe, Bucks, posed as a girl called Lisa to win his victim's trust. He then visited the girl's Warwickshire home and said he was Lisa's father before raping the teenager. Judge Marten Coates said the sentence was necessary to protect the public because McIver had shown no remorse.
